Elysium in India

In april 2008 I had the pleasure of checking out Dubai and India for a few weeks.....I loved it!!!! It was awesome. It was basically a research trip on the fashion and hair trends over in south east asia looking for inspiration and I definetely found it.

I definetely was shocked by the fashion in India. The 16-24 year old age group both men and women were dressed amazing. Super hip style that you would expect to see in London or Paris. The hair could have used some help definetely though. A lot of brassy brassy blondes, and a few too many faux hawks. Overall India was an unbelievable trip that I will never forget and can't wait to return to....

All About Beauty Show

This past weekend the entire salon went to the all about beauty show. It was two days with the first day as a trade show with various presentations on spring and summer trends in hair ,make-up, and clothes. The instructors were amazing and was tons of fun.(and we even got to have a lunch break, this is an exciting and rare event for hairstylists.) The second day We all went for hands on training.(very expensive, but well worth it!!) Jen and Jeff trained with Guylaine Martel from Montreal and Loved it, Loved it, Loved it! A Master Series Cutting class showcasing the hottest looks for spring and summer. She is an amazing International stylist and very inspiring. Stacy Trained with another french artist named Carmen who has been doing hair for nearly 40 years. She was brushing up on all the latest updo techniques and styles for this years fashion shows, grads, parties and weddings. Quinn and Sheryl Trained the entire day with celebrity hairstylist Micheal Shawn Corby. Who travels the world and whose clients include Reese Witherspoon, Lindsay Lohan, Pete from Fall Out Boy, Rosario Dawson, Nicole Ritchie and so on.... The girls spent an actioned pack day learning new cutting and styling techniques to bring them to the next level.

Can't wait!!! See you at the salon.

Contessa 17 2006 Alberta Hairdresser of the Year

These are the images That won 2006 Alberta Hairstylist of the Year. This was one of the easiest and most relaxed photo shoots we have done to date. The photographer was awesome Christy Dean at www.bluefishstudios.ca very organized, quick, diligent and creative. Andy Dos Anjos did all the clothing styling and last but not least hair was obviously done by the elysium hair army. These photo's evoke so many different emotions from people that they truly border on being a piece of art. The inspiration is a Victorian ship wreck. We wanted to capture the moment of them being washed up on shore and allowing the viewer
a glimpse of what their life might have been like, obviously with an elysium twist. I think one of the coolest haircuts we have ever done is on melony the copper head girl with the shaved line behind her ear. Very edgy but some how she stays femine and pretty at the same time. Also Fernando the guy with the shaved cross in his head I just decided to shave the cross in his side and sent him to wardobe.... when he came back he had a tattoo of a cross on his chest that I did not know about, very cool.

(BIG FAN OF THIS SHOOT!)

St. Valentine’s Day Hair Massacre

It is almost February 14th ,one of my favorite times of the year. Who doesn't love a day filled with flowers, chocolate, candy hearts, and mass head shaving? Yes, You did read that right... Here, in Edmonton Alberta it is, once again, time for the St. Valentine’s Day Hair Massacre. For anyone unfamiliar with event here is a link to their website. It is truly inspiring how, through their adversity, the MacDonald family has set in motion this great fundraising effort.

This year, Jeff and the rest of the staff at Elysium have decided to join in. Today they offered hair services for cash donations going to support the fight against cancer. Tomorrow (Tuesday) they will be volunteering 4 hours of their time shaving heads and at the end of the 4 hours Jeff and his beautiful new baby daughter are going to be shaving their own heads.
Check out the before and after picture's of Jeff getting his new pink hair for the event.

Listening to Jeff talk about his client starting out in her fight against cancer, I can't help but think of the people in my own life who have stuggled or are struggling against cancer. Grandmothers, Uncles, friends, and friend's children. The Canadian Cancer Society states an estimated 153,100 new cases of cancer and 70,400 deaths(from cancer) occurred in Canada in 2006. While these are sobering numbers, the good news is that, thanks to research, we’re closer then ever to fully understanding, treating, controlling and preventing cancer.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, I would like to encourage you to join Jeff and Elysium in support of this very worthwhile cause.
